Protests are intensifying in Jaisalmer as chinkara hunting incidents prompt legal action. The recent discovery of a dead deer has ignited outrage and demands for a high-level investigation. With the hunters still at large, wildlife enthusiasts and the Bishnoi community are joining forces to ensure justice is served. Stricter enforcement of wildlife protection laws and harsher punishments are being called for to prevent further illegal hunting in the region.
Another distressing incident of hunting of chinkaras, a protected species, has come to light in the Nehdai area of Jaisalmer district. The Shrijambheshwar Paryavaran Evam Jeev Raksha Parishad, an organization dedicated to environmental and wildlife conservation, discovered a dead deer near the Chak 14 Ridmal canal.
As soon as they made this grim discovery, the organization wasted no time in informing the forest officer about the incident. The police and forest department were immediately involved in the matter. The alleged hunters have been identified as Motilal, Ganpatlal, and Vinod Kumar. However, they managed to escape before they could be apprehended.
This incident has understandably caused outrage among the locals, leading to protests, hunger strikes, and demands for a thorough investigation into the continuous hunting of chinkaras in the area. Mangalaram Bishnoi, along with a whistleblower, played a crucial role in uncovering the hunting spot and reporting it to the organization.
The remains of the deer, including its limbs, blood, and bones, have been collected from the scene as evidence. The search for the hunters is still ongoing, with the support of wildlife enthusiasts and members of the Bishnoi community.

In response to this incident, protests have been staged in front of the Forest Department office and the Jaisalmer District Collectorate Office. An 11-member team of wildlife enthusiasts has also left for Jaipur to meet with the Chief Minister, seeking his intervention in this matter.
The protesters are demanding that the culprits be given strict punishment and that legal action be taken against any negligent Forest Department employees. There is a strong call for stricter laws to prevent future incidents of hunting and protect the precious wildlife in the region.
