The jail authorities have provided them with all the required puja materials. In a heartening development, 39 women prisoners in Muradabad district jail have decided to observe the Karva Chauth fast. This auspicious festival, traditionally celebrated by married Hindu women, involves fasting from sunrise to moonrise for the well-being and longevity of their husbands. It is indeed commendable that these women, despite being in jail, have chosen to keep this tradition alive. Deputy Jailer Sarvesh Kumari has been entrusted with the responsibility of arranging the puja materials and program for the fast. A team of jail officials and staff went shopping to buy all the necessary items for the puja. The jailer, leaving no stone unturned, made sure there was no shortage of any required materials. They purchased a pot, sieve, lamp, vermilion, fruits, and cosmetics, ensuring that the women had everything they needed to perform the rituals. After observing the moon, the women will break their fast, and sweets have been arranged for them during this time. It’s heartening to see that the jail administration has made provisions for the women whose husbands are also imprisoned in the jail to meet their wives during the puja. These husbands will be allowed to stay with their wives, and all the women will perform the rituals together in a line. Moving on to another jail, approximately 100 female prisoners in Gorakhpur district jail are also observing the Karva Chauth fast. Among these women, around 35 have been accused of killing their husbands, with 17 of them choosing to observe the fast even while in jail. It’s interesting to note that one of the prisoners, Sitanjali, is observing the fast not for her husband but for her lover, Brijmohan, who is also incarcerated. The jail administration, recognizing the significance of this festival for these women, has made all the necessary arrangements and provided them with puja materials. The other female prisoners who are observing the fast alongside Sitanjali and Brijmohan are named Vijayalakshmi, Guddi, Katwari, Sushila, Anupama, Rmita, Nisha, Sangam, Suman, Shailendra’s wife, Anjani, Balvanti, Pramila, Mala, Rita, and Reema. It’s inspiring to see these women finding solace and strength in their faith, even in challenging circumstances.
