In a recent turn of events, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids at the residences of former Governor Satyapal Malik and his associates on February 22, 2024. The raids come in the wake of allegations of corruption related to the Kiru Hydro Power Project in Jammu and Kashmir.
Despite being hospitalized, Satyapal Malik took to his official social media account to express his dismay over the raids. He mentioned that not only his house but also his driver and assistant were facing unnecessary harassment during the operation.
The Kiru Hydro Power Project, a run-of-the-river scheme proposed on the Chenab River in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, has been at the center of the controversy. During his tenure, Malik was accused of being offered a bribe of 300 crore rupees for the approval of files related to the project.
The CBI team, during the raid at the ancestral home of Satyapal Malik in Baghpat, collected details of his property and interrogated family members present at the residence. Currently stationed at the residence of Malik’s brother for further investigation, the team is leaving no stone unturned in the probe.
Satyapal Malik, a former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and now an MLA from Baghpat, resides in Hissar village near Singhavali Ahir police station. The CBI team, hailing from the Ghaziabad branch, visited the ancestral village to gather crucial information about Malik’s property.
