Bihar Flood Alert:Flood risk in Bihar as Kosi and Bagmati rivers reach alarming levels

Bihar Flood Alert: Some concerning news coming out of the Khagaria district in Bihar, where the Kosi and Bagmati rivers are giving residents quite a scare with their rapidly rising water levels.

Just yesterday, on June 26, the discharge from the Kosi barrage was measured at a whopping 1,41,170 cusecs, indicating a substantial influx of water. And if that wasn’t enough, heavy rainfall of 124 mm in the Kosi catchment area in Nepal on June 25 has only added fuel to the fire.

As of the latest reports, the water levels in the Kosi river have surged to 32.65 meters, while the Bagmati river is not far behind at 34.26 meters in Khagaria. The flood control region in Khagaria has assured the public that all embankments are currently secure, offering a glimmer of hope in this precarious situation.

The authorities have been forced to take action, with more than a dozen gates of the Kosi barrage being opened to release the excess water caused by the heavy rainfall in Nepal. In fact, just yesterday, 18 gates of the Kosi barrage in Veerpur, Supaul, were swung open to mitigate the rising water levels.

The situation is tense, with the looming threat of floods and breaches becoming more real by the minute. Engineers and officials are on high alert, closely monitoring the embankments and ensuring that all safety measures are in place to protect the residents of the region.

Stay tuned as we keep a close eye on this developing situation. Remember, safety always comes first in times like these. Stay safe, everyone! 🙏 #BiharFloods #KosiRiver #BagmatiRiver #StaySafe
