Today marks the inauguration of the highly anticipated heli ambulance service at AIIMS Rishikesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially launch the service via an online event, with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and other state ministers present at the AIIMS Rishikesh campus.
Background and Purpose
The heli ambulance service, announced in September 2022 by former Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, is a collaboration between the central and state governments aimed at providing rapid emergency transport services in Uttarakhand’s challenging terrains. The helicopter is expected to make at least 30 flights monthly, ensuring timely medical care for patients in remote areas.
Preparations and Facility Impact
According to AIIMS Rishikesh PRO Sandeep Kumar, all preparations for the inaugural ceremony are complete. This new service will significantly improve emergency medical access for patients, potentially saving lives by reducing travel time to the hospital for critical cases.
The introduction of the heli ambulance service is a substantial boost to Uttarakhand’s healthcare infrastructure, reflecting a commitment to enhanced healthcare access across the region.
