At the recent World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly (WTSA-24), India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the critical need for safer telecom services and a global regulatory framework for digital applications.
Modi highlighted the significance of inclusive, secure, and adaptable telecom standards in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape. India’s Data Protection Act and National Cyber Security Strategy were commended for their role in ensuring the security of telecommunications.
Moreover, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of developing ethical AI to uphold diversity and prioritize human-centric technology in the digital realm. India’s active involvement in advancing 6G technology was underscored, positioning the country as the second-largest 5G market globally.
Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared insights into India’s efforts to spearhead the development of 6G technology through initiatives like the Bharat 6G Alliance. The forthcoming 6G technology is anticipated to revolutionize broadband networks with AI-powered automated infrastructure optimization capabilities.
Furthermore, India’s telecom sector reforms have significantly slashed mobile data rates to approximately 12 cents per GB, improving accessibility for users across the country. Prime Minister Modi also highlighted the focus on leveraging the open network for digital commerce (ONDC) to boost efficiency and accessibility on digital platforms.
