Himalayan Buzzard Migrates from Kazakhstan to Chopta-Tungnath for Winter Nesting

As temperatures drop, the Himalayan Buzzard from Kazakhstan has arrived in the scenic valleys of Chopta and Tungnath in Uttarakhand. This majestic bird will spend the next four months migrating between Makku, Chopta, and Chandrashila, using the region for nesting and breeding.

Ideal Habitat for Bird Migration

The Rudraprayag district, with altitudes ranging from 3,000 to 14,000 feet, is a hotspot for numerous bird species. Renowned ornithologist Yashpal Singh Negi noted the arrival of the Himalayan Buzzard, emphasizing that the area’s favorable conditions make it ideal for nesting.

Diverse Bird Species in the Region

Birds such as the Red-Headed Bullfinch, Dark-Breasted Rosefinch, Himalayan Greenfinch, and Mountain Hawk Eagle also migrate here, while some species descend to lower altitudes during winter. The influx of bird species showcases the biodiversity of the Himalayan region, making it a haven for birdwatchers.
