The oath-taking ceremony was a grand affair, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and several other dignitaries. Gupta, a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, was administered the oath of office by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.

First Cabinet Meeting and Key Decisions

Hours after taking the oath, Rekha Gupta chaired her first Cabinet meeting at the Delhi Secretariat. The meeting saw the approval of several key initiatives, including the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme, which had been stalled by the previous government. Additionally, the Cabinet decided to table 14 pending CAG reports in the first session of the Delhi Assembly.

Portfolio Allocations

Rekha Gupta retained the finance portfolio for herself and allocated other key departments among her ministers. Parvesh Verma was given charge of PWD, water, irrigation, and flood control, while Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh were also sworn in as ministers.

Focus on Women’s Empowerment and Development

One of the significant announcements made by Rekha Gupta was the immediate implementation of the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, promising ₹2,500 monthly aid to eligible women, with the first installment to be credited by March 8. This move underscores the BJP’s commitment to women’s empowerment and economic support.

Addressing Infrastructure and Health Issues

Gupta emphasized the need to address Delhi’s infrastructure issues, particularly the poor condition of roads. She also highlighted the importance of cleaning the Yamuna River, a long-standing environmental challenge for the city. The new government plans to tackle these issues with urgency, aiming to improve the quality of life for Delhi’s residents.
