Delhi LG Urges NIA Probe into Allegations of Kejriwal’s Links to Khalistani Funds – AAP Cries Conspiracy Ahead of Elections
In a recent turn of events, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has called for an anti-terror probe into allegations of Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, receiving political funding from the banned Sikhs For Justice group. This group was founded by terrorist Gurpatwant Pannun.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a conspiracy by recommending this probe just ahead of the general elections in Delhi. Gurpatwant Pannun has even made claims in a video, stating that AAP received $16 million from Khalistani groups and promised the release of Devender Pal Bhullar in return.
Devender Pal Bhullar, a convicted professor in the 1993 Delhi bomb blasts case, had his death sentence commuted to life imprisonment. Kejriwal, who is currently in jail over corruption charges related to an alleged Delhi liquor policy scam, has denied all accusations, labeling them as a political vendetta by the BJP.
Adding to the drama, a third top AAP leader arrested in the case has challenged the arrest in the Supreme Court citing a lack of evidence. The Supreme Court is now considering granting bail to Kejriwal to allow him to campaign for the upcoming Delhi election.
A complaint filed by Ashoo Mongia from the World Hindu Federation of India alleges that AAP received $16 million from Khalistani groups. The allegations include Kejriwal promising to facilitate the release of Devender Pal Bhullar in exchange for funding from these outfits.
Kejriwal is also accused of having a secret meeting with pro-Khalistan Sikh leaders at a gurudwara in New York back in 2014. There are claims that Kejriwal even wrote to a former President seeking clemency for Bhullar.
In light of these serious allegations, LG Saxena has recommended an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the matter. AAP, however, has denounced this recommendation as a conspiracy by the BJP against Kejriwal, suggesting that the BJP fears defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
