Dubai Underwater: Unprecedented year of rain causes severe Flooding, not Cloud Seeding

Dubai residents typically take advantage of the warm, sunny weather while lounging in their air-conditioned homes. They had not planned for the possibility of waking up to streets flooded by rains. The arid city saw its most intense rainfall in decades on Tuesday. What led to it?

Planes have been rerouted. All schools are closed. Workers in offices are working remotely. The unexpected cause of Dubai’s stoppage is the intense rain and storm.

The financial hub is renowned for its intense heat and dry weather. However, a deluge of rain overwhelmed it on Tuesday. It was the desert city’s biggest rainfall in 75 years, resulting in severe flooding. According to weather readings at the airport, around four inches (100 mm) of rain fell in just twelve hours. This amount is about equal to Dubai’s yearly precipitation, according to figures from the United Nations.
