Sai, a favored candidate by the RSS, has a strong relationship with former Chief Minister Raman Singh. Known for his organizational skills and non-controversial image, Sai has been president of the Chhattisgarh unit of the BJP since 20He previously served as a union minister and won the assembly polls from Kunkuri, belonging to the influential Sahu community. The BJP’s victory in the tribal-dominated Surguja division played a vital role in their overall success in the state, where tribal communities make up 32% of the population.
In a major development for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Vishnu Deo Sai has been chosen as the next Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh for the 2024 general election. This decision aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of having a tribal leader as the Chief Minister of a state with a significant tribal population.
Sai’s selection as the Chief Minister candidate is not surprising, as he enjoys the support of the party’s ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Additionally, he has a strong relationship with former Chief Minister Raman Singh, which has worked in his favor.
With an impressive track record within the party, Sai has been the president of the Chhattisgarh unit of the BJP since 2006. He is known for his organizational skills and has maintained a non-controversial image throughout his career.
Sai has previously served as a member of the BJP National Working Committee and was appointed as the junior minister for steel in 2014. He won the assembly polls from Kunkuri in north Chhattisgarh and belongs to the influential Sahu (Teli) community.
Coming from a farmer’s family, Sai completed his higher secondary schooling at Loyola Higher Secondary School in Kunkuri. His grassroots background and experience in the political arena have helped him connect with the people of Chhattisgarh.
The BJP’s victory in the tribal-dominated Surguja division played a crucial role in their overall success in the state. Tribal communities make up 32% of Chhattisgarh’s population, and the BJP won 17 out of 29 seats reserved for the Scheduled Tribes in the assembly elections.
In the 2018 elections, the BJP secured 54 out of 90 seats, while the Congress, which previously held 68 seats, was reduced to 35 seats. The Gondwana Gantantra Party managed to win one seat in the elections.
With Sai’s appointment as the Chief Minister candidate for the 2024 general election, the BJP aims to consolidate its support among the tribal population and maintain its hold on power in Chhattisgarh.
