Captain Jithu George meets Deputy Commander Kenya Navy to bolster maritime cooperation

In a bid to strengthen maritime security and stability in the high seas for Blue Economy potential, Captain Jithu George recently paid a visit to Deputy Commander Kenya Navy, Brigadier Sankale Kiswaa at the Kenya Navy Headquarters. The meeting, which took place on 23 September 2024, saw both commanders engaging in discussions centered around exploring opportunities for future collaboration to enhance bilateral and military ties between India and Kenya.

The primary focus of the visit was to boost professional engagement, interoperability, and cooperation between the navies of the two countries. Emphasis was placed on the significance of maintaining secure waters in the Indian Ocean to ensure safety and prosperity through joint efforts.

During this visit, the INS Talwar docked at the Mombasa Port for a three-day stay, further symbolizing the commitment to fostering stronger ties between the two nations. The presence of other senior officers, including the Chief of Naval Medical Services and Deputy Commander of Mtongwe Base, underscored the significance of the discussions held.

Looking ahead, Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane is scheduled to visit Kenya on September 26-27, 2024, with the aim of further enhancing defence cooperation between India and Kenya. Planned discussions with the Principal Secretary for Defence of Kenya, along with a foundation stone laying ceremony for a new CT Scan Complex, are expected to bolster healthcare infrastructure for military personnel in Kenya. This initiative not only highlights India’s dedication to supporting Kenya’s defence readiness but also underscores a shared commitment to strengthening medical services in the region.
