Hey there, travelers! Here’s some hot news for those planning to visit the scenic hill stations of Ooty and Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu.
A new website has been launched to streamline the process of obtaining e-passes for tourists and commercial vehicles entering these picturesque destinations. Starting from May 6, visitors will need to register on epass.tnega.org to secure their entry from May 7 onwards.
The good news is that the registration process is more on the informative side rather than restrictive. All applicants will be granted an e-pass, making it hassle-free for travelers to make their way to these popular hill stations.
Once registered, a QR code will be sent to your phone for smooth entry. Foreign tourists, on the other hand, can use their email IDs for the registration process. Plus, if you’re traveling with a group, fret not – multiple people can travel in one vehicle without each person needing a separate pass.
There’s no cap on the number of tourists allowed to enter the hill stations, and e-passes can be obtained multiple times for those planning multiple visits. However, buses and residents returning home after a personal trip are exempt from the e-pass requirement.
In a bid to regulate outsider entry, the Nilgiris district has mandated e-passes for those entering the district from May 7, 2024. The process is quite simple, requiring basic details like your name, address, stay location, and vehicle type.
At checkpoints, a dedicated team of 100 personnel will scan the QR codes on the e-passes to ensure a seamless entry process. Foreign travelers can register their email addresses, while domestic travelers can use their cell phone numbers for registration.
Government bus travelers are exempt from the e-pass requirement, but all other vehicles must comply. To kick things off smoothly, there will be a trial run of the e-pass system from May 7 to May 30 to assess its effectiveness and address any potential challenges.
So, if you’re planning a trip to Ooty or Kodaikanal, make sure to get your e-pass sorted to enjoy a hassle-free journey to these stunning hill stations. Happy travels!
