The recipients of this honor include Chaudhary Charan Singh, PV Narasimha Rao, Kapoori Thakur, MS Swaminathan, and LK Advani.
Former Prime Minister Charan Singh and the late PV Narasimha Rao were posthumously honored alongside former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, renowned agronomist MS Swaminathan, and senior BJP leader LK Advani. The event was graced by the presence of prominent leaders including Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, and Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge. Notably, President Murmu personally visited LK Advani’s residence to confer him with the award due to his ailing health, highlighting the respect and admiration for the veteran leader.
PV Narasimha Rao, fondly remembered as the architect of India’s economic reforms, was likened to the legendary Chanakya for his strategic political acumen. Karpoori Thakur, affectionately known as ‘jannayak’, championed the causes of the marginalized sections of society during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Bihar.
Chaudhary Charan Singh, a revered leader hailing from the Jat community in West Uttar Pradesh, made significant contributions during his tenure as the Prime Minister from July 1979 to January 1980. Coming from a humble background as the son of a middle-class peasant family, Charan Singh’s legacy continues to inspire generations.
