Somvati Amavasya: Devotees flock to Haridwar for holy bath

On Somvati Amavasya, thousands of devotees gathered at Haridwar’s Ganga ghats early in the morning for a holy dip. All ghats, including the iconic Har Ki Pauri, were packed with pilgrims observing the auspicious occasion. The area was divided into 14 zones and 39 sectors to manage the crowd effectively.

Enhanced Security and Traffic Management

Security arrangements were led by SP City Pankaj Gairola and monitored by SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal, who conducted an inspection of the Mela area. Special instructions were given to police personnel at key checkpoints to ensure crowd control and safety. Female officers were deployed at women-only ghats, and traffic regulations were strictly enforced, with vehicles directed to designated parking zones.

Preparedness to Handle the Crowd

SSP Dobal emphasized the importance of police officers fulfilling their duties responsibly to avoid any disruptions. Zonal officers were tasked with monitoring alternative routes to manage increased footfall. Devotees visiting Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi temples were guided to queue systematically, ensuring order.

The successful execution of the traffic and security plan highlights the administration’s efforts in maintaining peace and order during this significant spiritual event.
