Train Derail in Orissa Update: On Sunday, a devastating train accident occurred near Nergundi station, close to Cuttack in Odisha, when 11 coaches of the Bengaluru-Kamakhya Superfast Express derailed. The incident, which took place at approximately 11:54 AM, resulted in the tragic loss of 1 life and left at least seven others injured.
Immediate Aid Provided
According to the East Coast Railway (ECoR), immediate action was taken following the derailment, with top railway officials, including the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Khurda Road and the General Manager of ECoR, swiftly reaching the site. An accident relief and medical relief train was dispatched to provide aid.
Director-General of Odisha Fire Services, Sudhansu Sarangi, confirmed that 7 passengers were rescued from the wreckage and promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. The authorities are working around the clock to manage the aftermath of the derailment and assist the victims.
Government To Cover Healthcare Expenses
Odisha’s Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, expressed his condolences and reassured the public that the state government would ensure the best possible medical care for the injured passengers. He also confirmed that the government would cover the healthcare expenses of those affected by the accident.
