Rescue Operations Underway in Chamoli District
On Friday morning, a massive avalanche struck the Mana village in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, trapping 55 workers under several feet of snow. The affected workers were part of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and were engaged in construction work in the high-altitude region. Rescue operations began immediately, with teams from the Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) working tirelessly to save the trapped workers.
Uttarakhand Avalanche:47 Workers Rescued, 8 Still Missing
As of Saturday morning, 47 of the 55 trapped workers have been successfully rescued. The rescued workers are receiving medical treatment at nearby facilities, with some being airlifted to hospitals in Joshimath. The search for the remaining 8 workers is still ongoing, with rescue teams continuing their efforts despite challenging weather conditions.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on Ground Zero
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been actively monitoring the rescue operations. He conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas and visited the Army Hospital in Joshimath to meet with the injured workers.
CM Dhami assured that all possible assistance is being provided and that the state government is in constant touch with the central government for further support.
Challenges Faced by Rescue Teams
Rescue operations have been significantly hampered by continuous snowfall, rain, and poor visibility. The region’s remote location and extreme weather conditions have made it difficult for additional teams to reach the site. Despite these challenges, rescue teams are working around the clock to ensure the safety of the remaining trapped workers.
Support from Central Government
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured full support from the central government. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has confirmed the deployment of NDRF teams to aid in the rescue efforts. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has also been put on standby to provide aerial support if weather conditions permit.
Conclusion
The rescue operation in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district continues as teams work against time to save the remaining trapped workers. The coordinated efforts of the Indian Army, ITBP, NDRF, and local authorities highlight the commitment to ensuring the safety of all affected individuals. The central and state governments remain hopeful that the remaining workers will be rescued soon.
