Hey there, folks! Today, let’s shine a light on a very important day – World Lupus Day. This day is all about spreading awareness and showing support to those battling the autoimmune disease Lupus.
Now, Lupus is no walk in the park – it can affect various parts of the body, causing inflammation and damage. Factors like genetics, hormones, environment, smoking, and stress can up the chances of developing Lupus.
But hey, it’s not all doom and gloom. Staying active is key in managing Lupus, so aim for 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week to keep those spirits up.
World Lupus Day falls on May 10 each year, with the goal of boosting awareness, enhancing patient care, and backing research for a cure. Did you know that almost 90% of Lupus cases strike women? The name Lupus actually comes from the Latin word for wolf, inspired by facial lesions that resemble a wolf’s bite.
This special day was established back in 2004 by Lupus Canada and is now a global event. In May, we also celebrate Lupus Awareness Month, which is all about sharing stories, raising funds, and spreading knowledge.
One cool event to check out is the National Lupus Advocacy Summit happening in Washington, DC. It’s all about pushing for more research funds and better access to care.
There are plenty of ways to join the fight against Lupus, like sporting purple on World Lupus Day, organizing fundraisers, or making donations. The Lupus Foundation of America encourages everyone to ‘Make Lupus Visible’ and support those affected by the disease.
Big shoutout to sponsors like Exagen, Aurinia Pharmaceuticals, AstraZeneca, and GSK for backing various awareness initiatives during Lupus Awareness Month. If you’re keen on getting involved, head over to www.lupus.org/lam for more info.
Let’s stand together and show our support for those battling Lupus. Every little bit counts, so let’s make a difference this World Lupus Day and beyond!
