Under CM Pushkar Singh Dhami’s Leadership:Nanda Gaura Scheme gets a new direction

In a significant move aimed at promoting higher education for girls in Uttarakhand, the state government is set to revise the Nanda Gaura Scheme. The government’s goal is to encourage more girls to pursue higher education by offering them annual financial assistance. This initiative, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, marks a shift in how the Nanda Gaura Scheme will operate.

Changes in the Nanda Gaura Scheme

The Nanda Gaura Scheme is a flagship initiative of the Uttarakhand government aimed at improving the quality of life for girls, especially from poor families. By providing financial aid at birth and upon completing education, the scheme seeks to empower girls with better opportunities. The planned revisions will further enhance the scheme’s effectiveness by ensuring continuous support throughout a girl’s educational journey.

The Nanda Gaura Scheme, originally launched in the name of two revered deities, Nanda and Gaura, currently provides ₹11,000 at the birth of a daughter and ₹51,000 upon passing 12th grade. However, the new modifications will allow for continuous financial support for girls pursuing higher education.

Chief Minister Dhami has directed officials to prepare a detailed framework within a month to ensure that the revised scheme offers meaningful assistance. Under this updated scheme, the government is planning to link it with the Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme. Eligible daughters will receive annual financial assistance, which could be ₹10,000 or more, deposited into their accounts to help cover their educational expenses.

Empowering Girls through Higher Education

The government’s primary goal is to increase female participation in higher education. By offering this yearly financial aid, the initiative seeks to ease the burden of education costs and motivate families to prioritize their daughters’ academic futures.

The revised plan will also introduce flexible financial provisions. Different courses may have varying levels of financial support, depending on the requirements of the specific educational programs.

Establishment of Working Women Hostels in Every District

In addition to modifying the Nanda Gaura Scheme, the Uttarakhand government is working on constructing working women hostels in every district. These hostels will operate on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, offering safe and affordable accommodation for women. Chief Minister Dhami has instructed officials to assess land availability and prepare a comprehensive plan for the project.

Conclusion

With the proposed changes to the Nanda Gaura Scheme, Uttarakhand is taking a bold step towards gender equality and education empowerment. The state government’s decision to offer annual financial aid for higher education will provide a much-needed boost to girls’ participation in academic fields. This initiative is a testament to Uttarakhand’s commitment to uplifting daughters and fostering an environment where they can thrive through education.
