Kedarnath Winter abode Rituals begin at Omkareshwar Temple, Ukhimath

On November 4, the Kedarnath Temple closed for winter, marking the seasonal transfer of worship to the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath. On Monday, Lord Kedarnath’s ceremonial palanquin journeyed from Rampur to Guptkashi’s Vishwanath Temple, attracting hundreds of devotees for blessings along the way. On Tuesday, the palanquin reaches Omkareshwar Temple, the winter seat for Lord Kedarnath’s worship, where ceremonies will continue for the next six months.

Sacred Journey of Kedarnath’s Palanquin

The Lord’s palanquin began its journey with morning rituals by the chief priest in Rampur. Accompanied by hymns, military bands, and devotees’ chants, the palanquin traveled through villages like Fata, Khadia, and Khumera, finally arriving at Bagdwal Dhar by noon. Evening ceremonies resumed at Vishwanath Temple, Guptkashi, where local villagers from Narayan Koti and Kotheda joined in a warm welcome.

Six Months of Winter Worship at Ukhimath

Now at Omkareshwar Temple, the deity of Kedarnath will receive daily prayers and rituals, allowing devotees to experience Lord Kedarnath’s blessings until the summer reopening. This transition keeps the spiritual connection alive for devotees during winter, ensuring that the faith remains strong throughout the seasons.

With grand ceremonies and devotional fervor, Kedarnath’s six-month stay at Ukhimath is a cherished period for worshippers, marking a significant time in the region’s cultural and spiritual calendar.
