In an effort to contain the outbreak of monkey fever, also known as Kyasanur Forest Disease, the Karnataka government has taken several measures. Since January 1, there have been a total of 49 reported cases and two casualties from three districts in Karnataka.

To ensure preparedness, the health and family welfare department has reviewed their strategies and advised officials to be on high alert. Hospitals have made necessary arrangements to handle cases, and the department is distributing DEPA oil for use in forest areas. Fortunately, they have sufficient stock of oil and medicines to combat the disease.

Meanwhile, forest officers in Madhya Pradesh have received training on enhancing soil health and forest productivity, which will aid in preventing the spread of the disease.

Monkey fever is a viral illness that is transmitted through tick bites in forested regions. In Uttara Kannada district alone, there have been 31 cases, with 12 patients admitted to hospitals. In light of this, the government has issued an advisory urging people to wear proper clothing and take hot water baths after visiting forest areas.

It’s important to note that monkey fever can be transmitted to humans through tick bites or contact with infected monkeys. Symptoms of the disease include fever, muscle pain, vomiting, and mental disturbances.

To prevent the further spread of monkey fever, precautions should be taken when entering forest areas. The government’s efforts are aimed at minimizing infections and preventing further deaths. However, the Uttara Kannada district may require additional attention and resources to control the spread of the disease.

Public health officials will continue monitoring the situation closely and taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of the people.
