Celebrate Paush and Mauni Amavasya with Pitru Puja and Magnificent Yoga

Paush Amavasya and Mauni Amavasya are both important days in Hinduism that hold significance in terms of religious rituals and spiritual practices. On Paush Amavasya, which marks the beginning of the auspicious month of Magha, people perform Pitru Puja to remember and honor their ancestors. This involves offering food, folding hands, and bowing down three times as a gesture of gratitude.

In addition to Pitru Puja, Amavasya in the month of Paush is also considered suitable for other religious ceremonies such as Pitru Shraddha and Tarpan. These rituals are believed to help the offerings reach our ancestors in the Pitru Lok, strengthening the bond with our lineage.

On this day, some communities also observe a special kind of Pujan called “Bakul Amavasya,” where a rice pudding made with milk and rice is offered. It is believed that this offering pleases the ancestors and further deepens the connection with them.

Mauni Amavasya, on the other hand, is celebrated according to the lunar calendar and falls on February 9th in 2024. It is believed to be the day when sage Manu was born and is regarded as highly auspicious. On this day, devotees worship Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.

One of the notable aspects of Mauni Amavasya is the presence of Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga, an auspicious yoga that occurs from 7:05 am to 11:29 pm. This time is considered highly beneficial for spiritual practices and fasting. Observing a fast on Mauni Amavasya is believed to bring fruitful results and blessings from ancestors.

Many people also take a holy dip in sacred rivers like the Ganges in Prayagraj on Mauni Amavasya. It is considered auspicious to donate rice, sesame sweets, clothes, and oil on this day. Offering milk and sesame seeds to the Sun is believed to fulfill desires.

Both Paush Amavasya and Mauni Amavasya are significant days in Hinduism that hold deep religious and spiritual meaning. By observing the prescribed rituals and traditions on these days, individuals can express their love and respect towards their ancestors and seek blessings for themselves and their families.
