Rajasthan Deputy CM Responds to Kota Student Suicides, Forms Teams for Coaching Centre Oversight

Student suicides in Kota, a city known for its coaching centers, have reached an alarming level, prompting Deputy Chief Minister and Higher Education Minister of Rajasthan, Premchand Bairwa, to express concern and vow to take action. The recent death of a NEET aspirant, Bharat, in Kota, who left a heartbreaking suicide note, has shed light on the immense pressure students face in these institutes.

With this being the tenth reported suicide case due to study-related stress in Kota, Bairwa has promised a thorough investigation to understand the underlying causes and find a solution. The government has taken immediate steps by forming teams to oversee the implementation of state-level guidelines at coaching centers, hostels, and PG accommodations in Kota.

The guidelines include crucial measures such as installing anti-suicide devices in ceiling fans and providing gatekeeping training sessions. Additionally, hostels and PGs have been instructed to install spring-loaded fans for student mental support and security.

The stressful environment faced by students in Kota, where aspirants from all over the country flock for test preparation, has become a matter of grave concern. The state and central governments have announced measures to prevent such tragedies, including mandatory screening tests, staff training, and penalties for coaching centers that fail to comply with regulations.

The formation of new teams comprising RAS and RPS officers to ensure the enforcement of guidelines in coaching centers is a positive step towards safeguarding student well-being. It is crucial for authorities to address the root causes of student suicides in Kota and create a supportive and nurturing environment for young minds striving for a better future.
