Chardham Yatra Season 2024:The holy shrine of Gangotri Dham has officially closed its doors for the winter on Saturday, coinciding with the Annakoot festival. Devotees filled the Dham with chants of “Har Har Gange” and “Jai Maa Gange” as the temple gates were shut for the season at 12:14 PM. This marks the transition of Maa Ganga’s worship to her winter abode in Mukhba village, where devotees can offer their prayers until spring.
Chardham Yatra Season 2024:Kedarnath and Yamunotri Temples to Close Next
The doors of Kedarnath and Yamunotri will close on Bhai Dooj, further concluding this year’s Chardham pilgrimage season. Yamunotri’s gates will close at 12:05 PM on Sunday, after which Maa Yamuna’s idol will be transported to the winter shrine in Kharsali.
Record Pilgrimage Numbers for 2024
This season saw an impressive turnout of pilgrims. By Friday evening, over 1.5 million devotees visited Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham—8.11 lakh at Gangotri and 7.10 lakh at Yamunotri—reflecting the pilgrimage’s spiritual and cultural significance.
