Government Launches ‘Sahkar Taxi’ to Empower Drivers and Ensure Direct Profits…

Sahkari Taxi Profit for Drivers: The government has announced the launch of ‘Sahkar Taxi’, a cooperative-based ride-hailing service that will allow drivers to earn directly without intermediaries taking a cut from their earnings. Union Home Minister Amit Shah revealed the initiative in Parliament, emphasizing that the model would align with Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Sahkar Se Samriddhi’ vision, which promotes cooperative growth for economic prosperity.

Direct Income Stream For Drivers

Modeled after popular ride-hailing platforms like Ola and Uber, ‘Sahkar Taxi’ will enable cooperative societies to register a wide range of vehicles—ranging from two-wheelers to four-wheelers—providing a direct income stream to drivers. This move addresses long-standing concerns about unfair pricing practices in the industry, especially as the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) recently issued notices to Ola and Uber over discriminatory pricing based on the type of device used for bookings.

By cutting out intermediaries, ‘Sahkar Taxi’ promises a fairer, more sustainable model that prioritizes drivers’ earnings, offering an alternative to the current ride-hailing giants while furthering the government’s commitment to cooperative development.
