Kedarnath By-Election: Campaigning Ends today, Voting on November 20

Six Candidates in the Fray for Kedarnath By-Election

The Kedarnath Assembly by-election has six candidates, including Asha Nautiyal from BJP, Manoj Rawat from Congress, Dr. Ashutosh Bhandari from UKD, and three independent candidates—Tribhuvan Chauhan, RP Singh, and Pradeep Rohan Rudhiya. Over 90,875 registered voters will cast their votes across 173 polling stations on November 20, with results declared on November 23.

17 Days of Intense Campaigning

Campaigning officially ends today at 5 PM, following 17 days of rigorous efforts by all candidates. BJP and Congress have been aggressively rallying to secure the seat, which became vacant after MLA Shailarani Rawat’s passing on July 9, 2023.

Polling Arrangements and Security

Polling officials will head to remote centers like Gaundar, Ransi, and Chilond on November 18, while other teams will deploy on November 19. Authorities have assured peaceful polling with all necessary arrangements completed.

Development as a Key Agenda

Former Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, campaigning for BJP’s Asha Nautiyal, emphasized the government’s transformative initiatives in roads, healthcare, education, and employment in the region. He urged voters to support Nautiyal for continuity in developmental efforts.

The Kedarnath by-election serves as a critical test for political parties ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections.
